New Years Day Ride
1st January 2010

The morning was cold and frosty, not quite as cold as last year but the roads were treacherous in the shady areas. So we decided to head, via the well salted main roads, to the Needle and Awl, 10 miles away.
Large mugs of coffee and hot chocolate were ordered to warm our hands and we enjoyed the 2 meals for £10 offer. OK, so we wimped out again, but it's still a great way to start the year!

Christmas Party
Friday 8th January 2010

As usual the 2009 Christmas party was held in January. 35 members enjoyed a delicious three course meal with all the Christmas trimmings, for the first time at the Tollemache Arms in Harrington.
Once the crackers where pulled, it didn't take long for the missiles to start flying, as well buzzing balloons and the most enormous confetti cannon! The 'Secret Santa' is always a treat and this year was no exception.
The staff were excellent and we were handsomely looked after at the Tollemache. I'm sure that we'll be here again for some of their lovely food.
A fantastic evening with laughs all round.

Quiz and Chips Night
Wednesday 17th February 2010

Cambridge Branch joined us for our first Quiz & Chips Night of the year.
The weather was less than kind, with very thick freezing fog enveloping East Northants. But more that a dozen Cambridge members came over to the Ten O'clock, making the bar absolutely packed with nearly 50 people!
Brian had put together some very good questions and we got through 2 rounds before we broke for supper. Sue was as organised as always and collected the hot fresh food from the chippy, which everyone enjoyed with the buttered bread.
Another two rounds of questions followed with a team led by Northants' Brosbloke beating my team by 1 point! Despite one team having 14 members... they came in third.
Special thanks go to Jennie for again baking scrummy cakes :o)
A thoroughly entertaining evening.

Chat with Hein Gericke
Wednesday 10th March 2010

Emma, from the Northampton Hein Gericke shop, dropped in for a chat bringing with her a range of clothes and lids available.
We discussed the latest innovations (and prices!) in clothing and designs of crash helmet. After the presentation, the packed pub tried on the helmets and clothing for themselves.
Thanks to Emma for giving up her evening and providing an entertaining and informative talk.

First Everyotherrun and it's not to Wollaston!
14th April 2010

Well, Winter's over, motorbikes are out from their wraps, time for our 1st EOR.
I stepped in to bail out Skip, who had another commitment and could not do the 1st EOR to Stibby as normal (incidentally he's doing the 2nd EOR to Stibby).
As Sue was called out to the hospital at the last minute on Wednesday evening with our daughter, I was solo for a change. Sadly if it hadn't been for the fact I had prepped the Goldwing, I would have taken my Blackbird out for a run. Nevertheless, I arrived at The Ten O'clock car park nice and early, 1 bike and rider already waiting, eager or what? Steadily from 7.10pm bikes turn up in a steady stream. By the time it was 7.30pm there were 18 bikes and 20 people ready to go, including 3 first timers.
I gave the standard talk, explaining the buddy system, especially for the newcomers and explained that due to the recent problems of the leader of a group being done for pace making, that we all ride for ourselves and as individuals. I also established my Tail End Charlie.
We set off, sun on our backs towards the A509, turning right towards Burton Latimer where a budding David Bailey (Penfold) was ready to snap action shots for his new hobby. We trickled along through Burton Latimer, Cranford, Finedon, A6 to Artlenock, heading back inland towards Wellingborough, a little cruise by the river at the Embankment and on towards Little Irchester. Getting ever nearer to that zone (shhhhhhhhhhhh Wollaston) I'm sure everyone was about to cringe then we veered off towards Irchester, through Farndish, turning left onto to Hinwick Road... oh dear there's that zone again. Turning away once more to Hinwick then Bozeat.
Great locking back in my mirrors, headlights streaming along and all together. Twisty, winding, uppy, downing roads past The Piggery where CooperB motorcycles are (as shown on Google maps) through Easton Maudit, once the home of David Niven, on to Grendon, past the lakes of Castle Ashby and turning right towards Earls Barton, now a straight run to our watering hole... or is it???? A pleasant cruise along the Hardwater Ridge into Great Doddington and lo and behold a pub/restaurant called The Stags Head which was initially to be our final destination as I have some influence with the staff there (or that's what I thought) but when they turned me down for a complementary bowl of chips for us all, I decided not to end there. But, just as a gesture, I thought we would pit stop there anyway, so I led us all into the car park, just long enough to send ripples of panic through all the staff wondering how they would cope with all of us and just a few staff. I then led us out and onwards to our real final destination which happened to be just a mile up the road. We were all still as one group as we turned into the car park of the Miller Carvery, were we dismounted for a drink and a chat.
The ride went very well with no incidents and the newcomers coping well with our system. All that and never touched WOLLASTON once.
Welcome to Adrian and Val, also Keith, all 1st time riding with us.

Everyotherrun to Stibby
Wednesday 28th April 2010

The weather was threatening rain, but we still had 17 bikes on the gutbuster Everyotherrun Stibbington Diner! The route took in all the possible types of road from dual carriageway A roads to singletrack local roads - and it was all the better for it. The run went very smoothly with no mishaps and everyone doing their bit marking the junctions.
At Stibby we met up with Gimli and Colin & Anne who came on the bike straight from home. A cracking ride-out and a great way to get food!

Heart of England Bike Show
Sunday 9th May 2010

As I had been volunteered as run leader by our beloved club secretary Sue, I thought I had better be nice and early for MUFO at 9am.
So up early, quick look at weather, worth the risk, so off to the pub to round up all the merry men.
I arrived at the pub, riding solo on the Wing (failed to wake the secretary up to come as pillion) to find just one other bike and rider waiting, I parked up and dismounted to be promptly approached by our pub landlord Mike who asked if we could park on the road as the pub car park was being used as a check point for the Waendel Walk and he didn't want the car park clogged up with loads of motorbikes HA HA HA.
John Shaw and I waited patiently for all the others to arrive. My phone then rang, it was Sue who had been woken up by Whitey (a major feat that I had failed at, well done Whitey), to say that he was running late and to wait for him, ironically he travelled 20 miles to the pub only to retrace his tracks on the way to Gaydon.
We waited until 9.10am, still only the 3 of us, so we decided to set off. Me as run leader, no need for the buddy system. I had set the Sat Nav for the shortest route as I know that takes us through the villages. We bimbled along towards Northampton via Sywell dodging in and out of the walkers all over the road. Clearing the walkers we made better progress, further on, unknown to the others I missed an instruction from Sally Sat Nav and on her re routing we were told to turn right. The road seemed to be into a farm although a definite road was showing on the screen, single track and meadow to both sides, oncoming traffic in the form of Model T Fords and other small vintage cars, probably narrower than the Goldwing and yet barely enough room to pass.
What superb roads, perhaps better miss instructions more often.
As we got nearer to Gaydon it became obvious that we were going the right way as we were meeting more bikers and forming a convoy.
We parked up, found a place on the Wing to stow all the equipment for all 3 of us and wandered down to the event.
Pretty much standard format, trade stands, training and advanced riding groups, brilliant stunt riding displays and of course the Heritage Motor Museum.
Into the museum café for pie and chips then a nostalgic wander around . So as not to tempt the clouds any more it was time to make our way home.
We rode home separately as we mostly do.
All in all a good day with lots to see although I had seen it all before. I did wonder, due to the low attendance, whether the event had been announced, but of course it had as we had a new member turn up, John Shaw, his first ride with us. Welcome John.

Everyotherrun to Yelden
Wednesday 12th May 2010

Thanks to all the riders that came down to the club for my ride out. There where 13 bikes in total, we left the pub at around 8pm after waiting for Dan to change his trousers, not sure what that was all about, maybe the thought of a ride out lead by myself was to much for him( ha ha). By the time we where ready for the off there was around 13 bikes and riders ready to go, along with two new riders which Sue took no time at all to sign up as members, way to go Sue!
We left the Ten O'clock car park and headed towards Finedon then on to Woodford under the A14 heading into Thrapston, coming out of Thrapston heading towards Ringstead, some nice fast and windy back roads hopping over the A45 at Raunds heading towards Chelveston on some even more windy back roads. Then it all went a bit mad, well what can I say, there is only one thing to do when going down the Hargrave straight and boy did we do it (he he). We then headed out towards two lovely little villages called Upper and Lower Dean so even more lovely back roads then finally ending up at The Chequers pub at Yelden just outside of Rushden.
The whole ride was approx 30 miles and lasted around 35 to 40 mins, everyone who came said they had a good time even the new comers. Maybe a bit fast, will have to keep that in mind for my next run.
So all that is left to say is once again thank you to everyone that came along and also thanks to Mickey 2 Hornets for being my T.E.C.

Whitey's Wet Everyotherrun
Wednesday 26th May 2010

Despite an overcast showery evening I found 16 other silly buggers waiting at the 10 o'clock when I arrived. All of us looking at the sky scratching our heads... Should we?... Shouldn't we?... We decided we should and no sooner had we set off we wish we shouldn't!!
I think it rained the whole way!! Probably not the best evening for Dan to scrub in his new front tyre on the wing! Well done Dan for getting to the pub and keeping it shiny side up.
The route I planned took us from the 10 O'clock to Orlingbury, Hannington, over the Pitsford Resovoir to Brixworth, Spratton, Ravensthorpe, Long Buckby to the A5 and then on to Weedon cross roads & up to Pattishall and along Ruth's old school bus route to Bugbrooke and on to Bugbrooke's Five Bells.
I decided to cut the route a bit shorter as we were all pretty much soaked through! I think I can say that we were all glad to reach the pub & dry out... as a little bonus and to make a ride in the wet worth it I'd arranged some FREE chippies - which seemed to go down very well.
But no sooner had we dried out (slightly) it was time to leave for the journey home... IN THE RAIN!
All in all a VERY WET run and a most enjoyable evening in the pub. Thanks everyone for attending my first rideout as leader... Hopefully my next one will be dry!

Kev's Everyotherrun
Wednesday 9th June 2010

During the day, there was no sign of a respite in the weather for the evening.
Getting kitted up in the garage as it drizzled steadily outside, I thought, “At this rate, I'll be the only stupid bugger to turn up”. A quick text from Sue, saying Dan was already wheeling his bike out of the garage, meant this was it! Still, as it happened, this was to be the only falling down water (from the sky) we were going to see for the rest of the night. We even had a dry road at one point along the 644.
FIVE stupid buggers set off from the 10 O'clock after a hastily revised route kept the run short, but interesting. Not as short as one suggestion. “Down to the roundabout and back in the car park”!
We had a good 50 minute blast. Incident free, aside from a couple of cars trying to squeeze through gaps that were filled with more than just the one bike then! (Goldwings can be so intimidating) and Dan having had at least 1 front-end “moment” on the loose stuff. Whitey, my Tail-End, declared, “I wouldn't have wanted it any drier”, after somebody had said that was a brisk run.
We had stopped at the Samuel Lloyd. A relatively new pub adjacent to Corby’s Triangle and being a Whetherspoons, I think we liked this falling down water better than most.
Straight away a local made conversation with us, and Prof and Dan were very quickly suckered in for the evening. To be fair, these weren't the usual ramblings of a drunken Scot. After all, Gordon had to get both himself AND the Be Em home that night!
Personally speaking, I think the locals were most excited to meet Prof and Dan (having just returned from the Scotland branch holiday) because now they can say they've met someone who has actually been there!!
One day, I'll get a dry E.O.R........ ONE DAY!

Phil's Sunny Everyotherrun
23rd June 2010

A perfect summer evening and my first effort at leading an EOR. There were loads of bikes.
Our destination was The Kings Head in Wadenhoe, a lovely little village on the river Nene in East Northants. The landlord was very welcoming and he also had the pleasure of the Peterborough Motorcycle Club visiting.
On route we passed through Orlingbury, Broughton, Great Cransley, Loddington, Rothwell, Rushton, Geddington, Warkton, Grafton Underwood, Brigstock and Aldwincle.
Many thanks to all of you, and welcome to John and Gary & Pearl who joined us for the first time on the day England qualified for the last 16 of the World Cup..... bring on the Germans on Sunday !!!!

Alan's circular Everyotherrun
Wednesday 7th July 2010

Having had glorious weather for the preceding week I was expecting it to turn for my ride-out. But someone up there was smiling at me, what a glorious evening. I got to the 10 O’clock around 7:30 to find a dozen bikes already there. Good turnout I thought, but at the end of the ride I counted 30 bikes (and the list down there says 31 !!).
Off we set at 8PM out towards Kettering but turning fairly quickly to take a back road to Finedon, down the A6 to Irthlingborough then up to the Addingtons, Ringstead, Raunds, Chelveston, Newton Bromswold, Yielden then heading towards Swineshead we turned off to Riseley and through to the A6, this bit of road was a real find, a 90 degree left with a tight U bend immediately after, cracking!!. So a quick squirt up the A6 then head west through Sharnbrook to Odell where we would pick up the road through to Hinwick, a nice bit of road about 2 miles long that has lovely sweeping curves, except of course if you have some numpty in a car doing 35mph!!! Still we got him eventually, and through to Podington, Wymington & Rushden. A jaunt through the sights of Rushden (as if) and turn into the Needle & Awl for a well earned pint. 48miles in 1hr 10mins. Whitey says to me "I hadn't got a clue where we were, then suddenly there was the Needle & Awl, how did that happen?". Well sir, we went in a big circle, about 5 miles as the crow flies LOL

Coventry Transport Museum
Sunday 11th July 2010

Well, the weather was on our side this time for my rideout! What a lovely day for it!!..
Waiting at the pub for me was Dan.. looking at his bike scratching his head & looking rather puzzled that his tax had run out LAST YEAR!!!?? ooops!! - "Im sure I've taxed it" He kept saying to himself... yeah OK Dan!
Then soon enough more bikes turned up all looking forward to the sunny sunday rideout...We all set off soon after 09:30 but not before Radar & Phil had to push Dan's Bird all the way to the roundabout to jump start him! - I thought they were going to have push him all the way to Coventry! Dan gave a very knackered and red faced Phil a ride back to his bike! Then we were all set for the off..... finally!!
My ride took us mainly cross country through to Coventry which was a very pleasant with no incidents and considering I had only rode the route once a few weeks previous I think I done bloody well to remember it!!
On arriving to the museum we were let into their secure staff parking area around the back of the museum which I had previous arrange with them - This was excellent as it meant we could leave all our lids & Jackets etc with the bikes and not have to carry them around with us...we was met by a member of staff who lead us in through the back entrance and welcomed us to the museum and pointed us in the right direction....THE CAFE!! first things first Coffee break and a panini!! Very nice too!!
Dan had said earlier he was just coming for the ride and stop for a quick coffee as he wanted to get back to see the Grand Prix... Oh and plus it was his anniversary!!!..... But after seeing what the Museum had on offer he soon stuck around for the day!! The place was full of old classic cars, motorbikes, push bikes, toys and two of the fastest cars on earth... Thrust II and the Thrust SSC, fantastic machines!
We all had a ride in the SSC simulator which was really good fun...
After looking around at the exhibits we ended up were we had started... THE CAFE... refreshments and a group picture!
Fantastic day and a cracking museum. Well worth a visit!
Thanks guys for coming along and making it what it was!

Ruth's Everyotherrun to Cambridge Branch
Wednesday 10th August 2010

The weather was awful all week up to Wednesday, when there was a small break.... ish. The rain clouds followed us, occasionally spitting but always threatening heavy showers. Unfortunately the cold and damp meant that Liz and Steve left us halfway, which was a shame.
The rest of the journey was uneventful save a couple of missed turns, but as the night got very dark it wasn't surprising. Cambridge Branch had forgotten that we were coming, so we got a very warm welcome from them. Despite the weather, it was a great run.

Charity Bike Show
Bank Holiday Monday 30th August 2010

Little Harrowden was once again filled with hundreds of bikers as they enjoyed the summer sun at the Branch Charity Show, raising over £8,500 for the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.
This was the fourth year of the Charity Show, which has now raised well over £34,000 for this deserving charity.
The free afternoon consisted of the live duo The Richtones (who performed for nothing), barbecue (with all the food donated by the landlord), massive charity auction and a hotly contested 'Best & Worst' bike competition.
The visitors to the show voted Pete Johnston's superb CB400/4 as the Best Bike, with the Worst Bike being Dave Wilson's BMW, named "Purple Grace".
Well done to Sue and Dan who worked so very hard to make this happen and thanks to everyone who contributed to raise this amazing total.

Penfold's singletrack Everyotherrun
Wednesday 1st September 2010

Penfold stepped in at the last moment as Robin couldn't make it, so many thanks to him.
It was another great turnout of 22 bikes that left the pub in the glorious setting sunshine. Although the route was only just over 20miles, he took us along many of the less travelled byways of Northamptonshire, the singletrack roads being 'interesting' in the dark! We also had a major first on an EOR when the route took us all the way round a roundabout, the markers did a great job ensuring that no-one misinterpreted the directions as we double backed on ourselves.
Unfortunately, nearing the end of the ride, Mick had a problem with his Divi which meant that Dan (TEC) had to stay with him until a solution was found. The group was stopped for a while, eventually we split into two groups but all successfully made it to The Tollemache in Harrington for a beer and chat.
Welcome to Dave who joined us for the first time.
