New Years Day Ride
1st January 2004

We left Henry's at 11.30am and headed west past Pitsford Reservoir and across country to Long Itchington.
The weather was a bit damp, but the roads were OK. We covered about 35 miles at a sedate pace, enjoying the ride.
We stopped at The Two Boats Inn, on the Grand Onion canal and enjoyed a pint and good, well priced, pub grub. This will probably be a good place for an Everyotherrun, later in the year.

On the ride were:
  Stritchy - Pan (run leader)
  Mark
(Chief Wigum) - Pan
  Brian
(Fancy) - Pan
  Trevor - CBR600

Wednesday 24th March 2004

Despite it being a bit wet underwheel (OK there was hail and torrential rain earlier in the day!) and a bit chilly, the five of us left Henry's at about 7.45pm.
Glynn led us on a great run, along the twisty backroads, out to the east. After 50 miles of well surfaced fast roads, we arrived at The Plough in Farcet Fen (no, I don't know where it is either). It's a really nice little pub, that serves delicious smelling food and a good range range of guest ales.
Nice one Glynn!

On the ride were:
  Glynn - Blackbird (run leader)
  Brian
(Fancy) - Pan
  Gordon
(Foghorn Leghorn) - BMW
  Ian - CX500
  Stritchy - Pan

Sunday Ride to Matlock Bath
28th March 2004

The weather forecast was good, so the three bikes and five people set off at 10am as advertised.
We went the easy route, straight up the A6 and apart from Stritchy chasing and failing to catch (surprise surprise) a Cosworth Turbo, the ride was quick and uneventful. As we entered Derbyshire the clouds cleared and we were bathed in warm sunshine - that's more like it!
We got to Matlock just after noon and immediately found somewhere to eat. Our timing was perfect, because in the next hour the road filled with bikes and parking spaces were like gold dust.
All in all a very nice day out.

On the ride were:
  Stritchy - Pan (run leader)
  George & Sandy - ST1300
  Russ
(Colonel Tupperware) & Thomas - Pan

Wednesday 7th April 2004

It was a dark and stormy night............................................ but despite the wet weather, a few brave souls left at 8pm on Gordon's Mystery Tour.
The route took us around the villages of East Northants, via some very gravely and twisty roads. Happily it didn't rain whilst we were out and it was a very pleasant ride. About an hour and 40 miles later, we arrived back at Henry's for a drink and chat. It turns out that this was the first time that Trevor had ridden his CBR in the dark, on wet roads! Nice one Trev, you don't need to worry, you rode well mate.
A good ride Gordon, even though it was obvious that you were making the route up as we went along  ;o)

On the ride were:
  Gordon
(Foghorn Leghorn) - BMW (run leader)
  George & Sandy - Triumph
  Trevor - CBR600
  Stritchy - Pan

Wednesday 21st April 2004

To make a change, we were riding with a purpose this week. We went to visit the Bedfordshire Branch.
It was nice to see a new face on the ride, welcome to Deputy Dawg (so called coz he insists on wearing doggy ears on his lid!) otherwise known as Scott. Although a little apprehensive about riding with us, he only passed his test a few weeks ago, he managed the 'drop off' system well and had no problems keeping up.
The ride itself took us along the very slippery back roads (it had poured down with rain earlier in the day) through the villages of Northants and Bedfordshire some 50 miles to the Lynmore in Sharpenhoe. We were made very welcome by our fellow HOC members, cheers guys.

On the ride were:
  Stritchy - Pan (run leader)
  Brian
(Fancy) - Pan
  John
(Skipper) - Gold Wing
  Gordon
(Foghorn Leghorn) - BMW

  George - Triumph
  Jeff
(Gay Brian) - Yamaha
  Scott
(Deputy Dawg) - Yamaha

Sunday Ride to Stratford-upon-Avon
25th April 2004

The run was supposed to be to Dorset but, due to circumstances beyond our control, plans were changed. So we decided to go to that popular bikers haunt on the River Avon.
When we got there the traffic was terrible - there was a half marathon being run that day (mad buggers!), so we couldn't park by the river. But, if you follow the one-way system, there is a nice new bike park (cars can't get in) by the multi-storey. After a slight mishap with with Viv's bike and a very tight bend, we stripped off (it was a hot day) and headed to the bar of the Pen & Parchment - the food is highly recommended.
The ride there and back was the usual bimble along the back roads, with great formation riding from all concerned.

On the ride were:
  Russ
(Colonel Tupperware) & Thomas - Pan (run leader)
  Paul - VFR
  Viv - CB600 Hornet
  Andy - ST1300
  Stritchy - Pan

Wednesday 19th May 2004

Another ride with a purpose this week, this time visiting the Cambridge Branch at the White Swan, Connington.
Brian led the ride from Henrys and Roger took over (coz we didn't know where the White Swan is) when we met him in Kimbolton. Before reaching Roger however, we passed a gaggle of gayly painted Pans complete with radar hairdryer on the A648! Happily they were looking the other way as we bimbled past - but we could warn a few bikers going the other way.
We were made very welcome by our fellow HOC members, although my attempt at 'log-rolling' didn't go too well!

On the ride were:
  Brian
(Fancy) & Jacqui - Pan (run leader from Henrys)
Roger & Nina - Blackbird (run leader from Kimbolton)
  Gilly - Blackbird
  Stritchy - Pan

Wednesday 16th June 2004

A gorgeous evening for a ride, led by the 'famous' Radar.
He lead 17 us on a 50 mile jaunt through villages along superb twisty roads. The drop-off system worked perfectly - which is just as well with such a large group - and nobody got lost and we didn't get too strung out. Apart from a great 'spirited' ride, the highlight was a mad woman walking her dogs, they had the good sense to move out of the way, but she seemed to take exception to people using her road and insisted on swerving in front of us - obviously the official Village Idiot!
We ended up at a lovely pub in Barwell, near Oundle. Well done Radar.

On the ride were:
  Brian
(Radar) - CB900 Hornet (run leader)
  Tash
(Mouse) - CB600 Hornet

Sunday Ride to Great Yarmouth
20th June 2004

The weather was our worst enemy this weekend. It was dull and overcast when we set off. Unfortunately my 'map reading' is appalling at the best of times! So no-one was surprised when I sailed straight past the turn off the A14 - ho hum a small detour through the villages then.
The rest of the ride was uneventful, apart from Deputy Dawg destroying his visor mechanism at a fuel stop.
Great Yarmouth is not my favourite of places and it is even worse when its raining........................ so we scuttled off the pavement and had a lovely breakfast, waiting for a break in the clouds. Russ had to have some chips from 'Russ's Chippy' and after a long wait he finally got to eat them - and they were awful! It's strange how Russ didn't find that as funny as the rest of us!
We walked the 'Golden Mile' and the heavens opened on the walk back to the bikes, so we sheltered in the Winter gardens and listened to the raindrops self destructing on the glass roof.
Russ led the run home along some very nice roads. The only fright was when we were cruising back on the A14 at <cough>mph. As tail-end-charlie I spotted the cop car coming up fast behind us with all its toys going full blast. "Oh deary me" I thought, that's my licence endorsed then! Luckily (for us) he was responding to an accident further up and went screaming past.

On the ride were:
Stritchy - Pan (run leader - there)
  Russ
(Colonel Tupperware) & Thomas - Pan (run leader - back)
  Danny & Sue - CB750
  George - ST1300
  Scott
(Deputy Dawg) - FireStorm
Everyotherrun
Wednesday 13th July 2004

I got to Henry's just in time to join the back of the group. Paul Everson was seconded in at the last minute as run leader - so I knew the run would be a goodun.
We had a little detour in Olney when another group went past and some-of-us followed the wrong taillight! Never mind, we were all reunited at the Warrington roundabout and headed down to Bedford. The plan was to go up the B660 to Kimbolton <so the group went past my flat, thinks, I needn't have rushed!>, which is a lovely sweeping road.
We went through Kimbolton and then, via numerous little country roads, back to Henry's. The ride was just over 60 miles and very good it was too. My only gripe was that I now had to retrace much of the same route again to get home. Oh well, it was a nice evening for a ride!

On the ride were:
  Paul - Suzuki (run leader)
  Brian - Pan
  Jeff
(Gay Brian) - Yamaha
  George & Sandy - ST1300
  Dan & Sue - CB750
  Stritchy - Pan
  Gordon
(Foghorn Leghorn) - BMW

  Len & Caroline - Yamaha
  Phil - Blackbird
  Paul
(Padre) - FireStorm
  Pete - Blackbird
  John - Pacific Coast
Sunday Ride to Cheddar Gorge
Sunday 18th July 2004

On a warm morning, the group gathered at Henry's for a 320 mile bimble to Somerset. There was a lunch stop in Marlborough before reaching Cheddar. The group had a delicious pub lunch at the Gorge.
If you want to see what you missed, look here

On the ride were:
Brian & Jacqui - Pan (run leader)
  George & Sandy - ST1300
  John
(Skipper) - Gold Wing

  Andy Morton - ST1300
  Brian - Suzuki
  Derek - Yamaha
Everyotherrun
Wednesday 11th August 2004

What started out as a normal Wednesday Everyotherrun soon went horribly wrong!
As we were going around Northampton on Great Billing Way, we saw a bike on its side and a biker chasing a car. The car was accelerating away, with the biker trying to open the door, so I swerved across the road to block his escape (in retrospect, a completely mad idea!) and everyone else followed suit. This didn't put off Escortman, he just mounted the pavement and got around us!
Brian and I stopped the traffic, to allow the CBR600 to be picked up. Some witnesses phoned the police and we all waited for the imminent arrival of plod.................................... and waited................................... and waited!
Over an hour and 20 minutes later we gave up and left! So much for the Northants police! We were not impressed! You can bet had anyone been wheelying down the road they'd have had the chopper and ARVs there in minutes <that's enough of my rant!>
Instead of a good long run, we ended up at the Red Lion in Brafield for a beer and discussion of the evening's events.

On the ride were:
  Stritchy - Pan (run leader)
  Brian - Pan
  Scott
(Deputy Dawg) - FireStorm
  George & Sandy - Triumph

  John
(Skipper) - Gold Wing
  Gordon
(Foghorn Leghorn) - BMW
  Adrian - VFR

Sunday Ride to Beach Head
15th August 2004

Every year Eastbourne has an excellent air display, this is best viewed from just up the road, on Beach Head, as the whole bay can be viewed, with the aircraft doing their displays 'underneath' your view point.
We had a good ride down to South Mimms where we met up with a group from the Bedfordshire Branch.
The 17 bikes then headed around the M25 and over the Queen Elizabeth Bridge. It was a good ride down to the south coast at a reasonable speed. We finally got the message from the weather and put on our waterproofs about 30 miles from Eastbourne.
I made the mistake of heading through the centre of Eastbourne and we caught the huge quantity of traffic trying to do the same. Along the seafront it was decided to stop and view the airshow from there, just as well really because Dibble's bike was boiling over in the slow moving traffic! After a short stop, ice cream and drink, we off to Beachy Head - a local told us that we were likely to be towed away if we stayed where we were!
On the top of Beachy Head we settled down to watch the air display. The Battle of Britain Flight did a superb display, flying right over the top of us. Unfortunately, as the afternoon wore on, the cloud closed in around us and the display was cancelled. Oh well there's always next year.

On the ride were:
  Stritchy - Pan (run leader)
  Brian - Pan
  Danny & Sue - CB750
  George & Sandy - ST1300

  George - Triumph (run leader)
  John
(Skipper) - Gold Wing
  Scott

Everyotherrun
Wednesday 6th October 2004

As is traditional for the last Everyotherrun of the year we headed for the Stibbington Diner on the A1, just south of Peterborough. Unfortunately, they've changed the slip road lay-out for the Diner and most of us overshot the first entry <oops>. There was the usual mad rush for the queue to order a Mega Breakfast and we settled in for the evening. Roger & Nina and Roy joined us at the diner and much tea was drunk, bollocks talked and good times had by all.

On the ride were:
  Brian - ST1300 (run leader)
  John
(Skipper) - Gold Wing
  Phil - Hornet 6
  Adrian - VFR
  Danny & Sue - CB750

  George & Sandy - ST1300
